Roots Environmental Services
Roots Environmental provides a broad range of services to assist you with your objectives. All of our services can be specifically tailored to meet your needs, from small due diligence assessments to larger Natural Environment Reports for aggregate applications.

Environmental Impact Studies (EIS)
We are experienced in completing Environmental Impact Studies (EIS) and related studies for municipal, Provincial or Federal projects. Our experience also includes Natural Heritage Evaluations under the Greenbelt, Lake Simcoe Protection Plan and Oak Ridges Moraine Conservation Plan. The studies typically involve consultation with applicable agencies, documentation of existing conditions through field investigations, analysis relative to current criteria/guidelines, identification of the presence of any natural features, assessment of potential impacts and recommendations for mitigation measures.

Species at Risk Assessments and Permitting
Roots Environmental staff have actively been involved in the assessment of private and public lands for species at risk listed under the Ontario Endangered Species Act (ESA) and Federal Species At Risk Act (SARA). Our experience includes field surveys for flora and fauna, assistance with permits/registrations, preparation of mitigation plans, staff training, annual reporting and monitoring. We are certified Butternut Assessors, experienced at the collection and analysis of bat acoustic data and have conducted field studies for various wildlife and plant species in our region.

Biological Inventories/Ecological Research
With years of experience, we have the capability and expertise to design and conduct inventories in terrestrial and wetland habitats. We are experienced in the use of regulatory protocols and criteria to identify natural features and evaluate their significance. We are trained in the use of Ecological Land Classification (ELC) , the Ontario Wetland Evaluation System (OWES), bat acoustic analysis and protocols for conducting plant and wildlife inventories.

Natural Environment Assessments
As part of larger Environmental Assessments for municipal, provincial and federal projects, it is often a requirement to complete terrestrial assessments to evaluate potential impacts to significant features or ecological functions. Roots Environmental can assist with these components of your larger projects and provide expert advice to determine permitting requirements, mitigation measures and determination of appropriate alternatives.

Due Diligence Reports
Whether you own or are considering the purchase of a property to develop, with today's complex set of legislation and Provincial plans, it is a worthwhile investment to complete due diligence ahead of time to determine potential constraints and/or opportunities. These due diligence studies can be scoped to desktop reviews and analysis, or more detailed field investigations to provide you with the best information going forward with your project.

Natural Environment Reports Level I & II
Roots Environmental staff have completed Natural Environment Reports for pit and quarry applications throughout central and eastern Ontario under the Aggregate Resources Act (ARA). These reports involve the preparation of a Level I report to identify the presence of any natural heritage features within the proposed license area and/or adjacent lands, and if required, a Level II report to assess potential impacts to features and recommend mitigation measures to ensure no negative impacts.

Wetland Evaluations
Roots Environmental is certified by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) to complete wetland evaluations in Southern and Northern Ontario. In addition to complete evaluations, Roots can assist with wetland delineation, preliminary assessments, and technical impact analysis and mitigation plans.
